Chatting with Bjorn was as refreshing and effervescent as seeing the drinks he posts on his Instagram. (@kingbjornce) A common theme I come across in these conversations is the pause that those in the industry face when they make the decision to become sober in hospitality. Learning a little bit more about the mindset, and the pathway of thinking about what it means to turn and face the industry instead of cutting and running further amplifies the importance of being a beacon for those having similar feelings. Seeing those in the industry who were sober at the time when I needed it made me twist my feet, stick it out, and learn ways to give back to hopefully contribute to a growing and healthy hospitality industry.

Founded in 2016, the mission of Ben's Friends is to offer hope, fellowship, and a path forward to anyone who struggles with substance abuse or addiction. By coming together, starting a dialogue, and acknowledging that substance abuse cannot be overcome by isolation and willpower alone, Ben's Friends hopes to write a new chapter in the lives of food and beverage professionals across the country.
