TQC talks with Robert Fieseler, an award-winning journalist and nonfiction author. His debut book, Tinderbox: The Untold Story of the Up Stairs Lounge Fire and the Rise of Gay Liberation, delves into the 1973 fire that killed 32 people and devastated the gay community of New Orleans and beyond. It was the largest mass murder of gays until 2016, was buried for decades, and only recently emerged as a catalyzing event of the gay liberation movement. Fieseler’s Tinderbox won the 2019 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime.
