Trigger Warning: Childhood neglect and abuse, brief mentions of suicide and death by overdose.
In today's episode Early talks to their friend Robert. Robert's life began in a pretty rough way: with childhood neglect, abuse in the family, and having his dad give him beers because he thought it was funny. Robert's childhood consisted of misbehavior, escalating drug and alcohol use, and being repeatedly kicked out of different schools. In adulthood he followed his intuition to seek more in life by traveling, though his addiction and arrest record tagged along with him. He couldn't keep a job for very long, and managed to stay drunk (and arrested) via theft. A series of unhealthy relationships with partners and his dad created a framework primed for increasing addiction. Later, he was able to find lasting recovery from alcohol by having his first healthy partnership, where they both quit drinking together and held each other accountable. Robert also dove into Taoism and other internal spiritual practices and found a sense of fulfillment that bolstered his recovery.
