Robert Ripley was born in 1890 in Northern California. At school, children mocked his crooked smile. Because of this, the young boy kept his distance and devoted his hours to his favorite pastime, drawing. After the death of his father, he had to abandon his studies to support his family. At the age of sixteen, he landed a job as a sports cartoonist at the San Francisco Bulletin. The young man quickly realizes he wants to turn it into his profession.
