The narrative follows a group of adventurers who, after a minor victory, seek respite in a seemingly peaceful grove. However, this sanctuary quickly transforms into a scene of horror and internal conflict.
The grove initially offers healing and tranquility, but this is soon shattered. The goblin, Midge, is brutally murdered by Sylvester, a tabaxi rogue, who appears to be under the influence of a dark force. The party reacts with shock, horror, and distrust, struggling to comprehend the sudden violence.
The group grapples with guilt, blame, and the unsettling realization that a darkness has taken root within Sylvester. Zena, a celestial being, attempts to cleanse Sylvester but is consumed by the same dark force, leaving only a mysterious black stone behind. The party is fractured by fear and suspicion, with Loriska expressing open hatred towards Sylvester.
The story concludes with Midge's burial and the party's departure from the tainted grove, leaving the party burdened by loss,fear, and the ominous presence of an unknown evil. The events highlight the fragility of peace and the corrupting influence of darkness, both external and internal, on a group of adventurers.
