  • Jason Narducy

This week we have the good fortune to be talking dogs with Jason Narducy. The singer, songwriter, bassist, guitarist and author who’s played with Bob Mould, Superchunk, Sunny Day Real Estate and the attention grabbing tours covering classic R.E.M. albums with actor Michael Shannon. Jason introduces us to his 6 year old brindled American Staffordshire Terrier Juniper who came into his family a year after losing their Black Lab Zoey. Jason recently took Juniper on tour so we dig into what that experience was like, the routine they developed that benefitted them both and much, much more. Fun talk from a great storyteller.

Jason gave a unique and thoughtful shout out to Prairie Wolf and Pooch Park. Prairie Wolf is open daily from 6:30am to sunset and is one of five designated off-leash dog areas within the Lake County Forest Preserves. For more info visit lcfpd.org

Pooch Park is open daily from 5am to 10pm and is Skokie’s only off-leash dog park providing a unique outdoor green space for dogs with more than 2.7 acres of open area. For more info go to skokieparks.org/pooch-park

  • Ben Kenney - ex-Incubus, The Roots

This week we welcome multi-instrumentalist Ben Kenney to the show who introduces us to his 7 year old Italian Greyhound and artistic muse Carl (a.k.a The Hot Carl). Ben played guitar in The Roots in the early 2000's and bass in Incubus for 20 years before a health crisis forced him to recalibrate his life. We discuss how Ben, as a cat guy, came to add some dog energy into the home, the dogs of his New Jersey youth and how his animals comforted him while he recuperated from major surgery. Good talk from a thoughtful and grounded dog dad.

Ben elected to give his shout out to Dogs Without Borders, a registered 501(c)3 non profit organization and foster-based rescue in Los Angeles that pulls small breed dogs from LA area shelters, as well as working with international rescue partners to re-home dogs in need. To adopt, foster, volunteer or donate visit dogswithoutborders.org

  • Janie Van Halen

This week we're happy to welcome Janie Van Halen to the podcast. Janie introduces us to her current rescue Pepper, a unique looking Poodle, Chihuahua, Mexican hairless mix, she's had for just over two years. We also hear the story of her "soul dog" Kody, a Pomeranian that she shared with husband Eddie Van Halen, who went on tour, photo shoots and embodied the life of a true rocker dog. • Bruno Esrubilsky - Mitski

I got an introduction to this week's guest on a Tuesday and recorded the show with him two days later. Love when things come together quickly and happy to share the infectious enthusiasm that Mitski drummer Bruno Esrubilski brings when talking about his 5 year old Miniature Schnauzer Hugo. We get to know Hugo and his grooming habits, whether he'd make his Schnauzer ancestors proud and how an unknown allergy to bees almost cost him the chance to be a big brother to Bruno's newborn son. Plenty of good dog talk from this upbeat drummer.
