RECAP TIME:
Finding the final location on the ancient map of the drowned city, our heroes found themselves in a demi plane of ash. There they were chaperoned through a strange mansion by Leralith, the reforged memory of the sorcerer who once created this place, and they discovered the Seal Sanctum was beneath them in a prison called the King’s Hold.
Our heroes delved through the Kings hold, facing reanimated horrors and puzzles. But through they went. Finally in the Seal Sanctum, First Mate Detrius opened the great sealed door with the bloodkey and revealed himself as Xethir, hidden by a spell like true polymorph, nemesis and herald of the Malignant Domain.
Although they succeeded in preventing him from him from claiming what lay beyond the great seal, it wasn’t without injury or loss. The captain of the Oddmium Trist was dead.
But beyond the seal, they found a burrowing, a tunnel world that linked two planes, and deep within was a great tower of glass, a legendary surgepyre built to harness a once in a millennia Maelstrom. Next to the tower was a strange hideout carved into the rock where they found more secrets of this place, and claimed a hideout with a teleportation circle all for themselves.
Careful to ensure the place was hidden from Xethir permanently, they collapsed the tunnels of the Kings Hold, and made their escape back to the ship to deliver the news to the crew that both their captain and first mate were no longer with them.
