New to the ocean cove city of Delnori, our heroes threw themselves into work – possibly to distract from the insanity of their recent departure from Dustmere.
In their first job was simple: find and scare-straight the Chasm Pigs gang. instead, our heroes found themselves fighting off the now-rabid gang members who had been magically dominated by a horrific giant rat that seemed to have been modified with clockwork. They freed who they could and find the rat, but not before it funnelled its thoughts it into Eugene's mind – it's terror of the "maker" that had created and enslaved it.
The next job was pest control at a shack of a tannery. But on arrival it became clear that the place had been left unattended – damp leathers had begun moulding, and the table held the drying remains of the tanner's last meal.
Ahmaya also found a letter, from the tanner, Jeffrum, to a pirate crew of the Oddmium Trist, in which he was following up the gold he'd sent them in request for aid with the creatures that plagued his home.
Then a voice called down for help from up the narrow stairs, Jeffrum. Then another cried from the coal basement, identical, telling them not to trust the voice upstairs.
Meanwhile Eugene, feeling perturbed, had left and wandered out into the tanning area to inspect the chemicals with his alchemist's eye. A similar voice bubbled from the tanning vat beside him, and a horrific hoofed canine leapt from the caustic wash.
The fight was savage, both inside and outside the house. Jeffrum had barricaded himself upstairs, and after slaying the two monstrosities, he told our heroes about the upheaval of the Thieves Guild, now split into the Lamoré family and the Touch Lotus Thieves. And the old HQ was deeper down this Fissure of Scure Street… right where the old tracks seemed to tread from.
Our heroes followed the hoofprints deeper into North fissure to where fog rolled over the path and canal. Like a rounded stone in a stream the wooden bungalow bulged from the mist and jutting from its roof was a burned-out steeple.
They stepped onto the mud, amid the fog and jumbled tombstones…
