The Safe Space

Romans 1 & 2

Welcome to The Safe Space!

The apostle Paul has journeyed throughout the Mediterranean world, spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to Jews and Gentiles alike. During his third missionary journey, he writes to a church in Rome—one he did not found and has never visited—yet deeply longs to see. In his opening words, he introduces himself and shares the Good News with them, hoping that one day he will not only visit, but be encouraged by their faith even as he continues to strengthen theirs.

As the letter unfolds, Paul makes one truth unmistakably clear: it is by faith that a righteous person has life and is made right in God’s sight.

But Paul does not shy away from confronting the reality of sin. He speaks plainly about those who choose to live apart from God—lives marked by envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, gossip, backstabbing, pride, and rebellion. Though they know such a path leads to destruction, they continue in it—and even encourage others to do the same.

Yet the warning does not stop there.

Paul turns to those who consider themselves righteous, exposing the danger of hypocrisy. Those who judge and condemn others, he says, are in fact condemning themselves and will face judgment from the Lord. For a day is coming when God’s righteousness will be revealed, and every person will be judged according to what they have done.

In the end, Paul reminds us that true transformation begins within. A changed heart does not seek praise from people—but from God alone.
