Romans 11- Life Group Questions

Read Romans 11:25-36

Let’s remember theme Paul is laying out through the whole book of Romans. In many ways he keeps showing his audience who is split between Jews and Gentiles how all have fallen short and how God is working to redeem and embrace all. God‘s plan is for all the children of every creature through all of time. This is not only the arc of human history but the arc of our own story.

“For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” 11:29 If you can live close to this truth, how will it affect you? Is there anyone in your life who is making it hard to remember because you can see they are far away from their call?

“For God has consigned all people to disobedience so that he may show mercy to them all.” 11:32 This is a verse that is often ignored. It’s almost hard to fit into much of what Western Christianity teaches. How do you look at this and how does it help you understand God’s heart toward us?

Paul responds to the previous verse with an exclamation of praise when he says, “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how fathomless his ways!” 11:33-36 Often the inner workings of faith feel confusing to many but Paul’s response to mystery is to return to praise. Sometimes in our confusion, due to where we are at this point in our story, is to remember the bigger story and return to praise in the middle of the mystery. Take a moment to pray and do just that.
