In today’s text, Paul says Jesus came as ‘a servant to the circumcised’ (v8), which is a clear and unambiguous reference to the Jews. He says it is for two reasons:* Firstly, (v8) to show ‘God’s truthfulness’ and to confirm the ‘promises to the patriarchs’.* Secondly, (v9) to trigger the worship of the Gentiles (this is expanded in v10–12).
