The Safe Space

Romans 6-8

Welcome to The Safe Space!

As Paul writes to the Roman church, he explains that God’s law reveals our sin—but as sin increased, God’s grace increased even more. Where sin once ruled and led to death, grace now reigns, bringing right standing with God and leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The power of sin is broken. For we died and were buried with Christ through baptism, and just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, we too may now live new lives. For when we died with Christ, we were set free from the power of sin. Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.

You are no longer bound by the law. You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. Now you have been released from the law, for you died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God—not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit. God’s law reveals our sin, but sin used the law to arouse all kinds of wicked desires within us. So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with us, for we are all too human—we are slaves to sin. We want to do what is good, but we don’t. We don’t want to do what is wrong, but we do it anyway. There is a power within each of us at war with our minds, and this power makes us slaves to the sin that still lingers within us.

Who will free us from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God—the answer is Jesus Christ our Lord.

Verse of the day: 2 Corinthians 1:20

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
