<p>As Christians striving to live the Christian life, we usually start with “how”. How do I break this habit? How do I have a better marriage? How do I get my kids to behave? How do I live a God-honoring life. Those aren’t bad questions. It’s just not the place to start. Notice, as Paul begins his discussion of sanctification, here in chapter 6, he doesn’t begin with how. He starts with “why”. Why not sin that grace may abound?</p>

We pray that God will powerfully work by connecting the realities of the Good News in Christ to the everyday patterns of our life. We are confident because the Bible says real transformation comes from hearing this Good News, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel [Good News]," Paul writes in Romans 1:16 "for it is the power of God unto salvation." The Gospel shows us how serious the consequences of our sin are: Jesus had to die a painful death on a cross to bear our sin. It's not enough, therefore, to live a basically good and moral life. Everybody needs forgiveness and salvation offered only in Jesus. Come to him to find life, peace and lasting joy.
