Our contract with self is broken

  • Romans 8:12
  • opheiletēs (Greek: ὀφειλέτης) – one who owes another, a debtor; one who owes God penalty or whom God can demand punishment as something due, i.e. a sinner

    • God’s Spirit facilitates death and life

    • Romans 8:13
    • “I die daily”
      • Both point and process: I have died to sin and I am dying to sin… so that I might have life!

        • Who we are no longer…

        • Romans 8:14-15a
          • No longer a slave to sin.
          • No longer crippled by fear.

            • Who we are in the Spirit:

            • Adopted
              • Romans 8:15b-16
              • No higher title. Adopted children of the almighty God.
              • A legal and intentional act: saying “you are mine”.
