In Verona, the Montague and Capulet families are locked in a bitter feud. Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, meet at a masked ball and fall instantly in love. Despite their families' hatred, they secretly marry with the help of Friar Lawrence. When Romeo is banished for killing Juliet's cousin Tybalt, Juliet is forced into an arranged marriage with Paris. To avoid this, she takes a potion that makes her appear dead, with the plan that Romeo will retrieve her from the family tomb. However, Romeo doesn't receive the message about the plan and, believing Juliet is truly dead, drinks poison in the tomb. Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead and, in despair, kills herself with his dagger. The tragedy brings the feuding families to their senses, and they reconcile, ending the long-standing conflict.
