Love me, love me not

Romeo & Juliet : and they died unhappy (4/4)

Listen Later

It's a story of love at first sight and sacrifice. Romeo and Juliet, the famous characters from Shakespeare's work, have been elevated as the epitome of Love with a capital L. But amidst family conflicts, spilled blood, and death as the only way out... When you dig a little deeper, can we truly speak of love at first sight? Is the love story of the two teenagers really a model today ?

And they died unhappy

The final scene is well-known: the two lovers tragically meet their end. A story's conclusion that presents death as a perfectly acceptable solution when love is deemed impossible... How do we reinterpret Shakespeare's play today ? Here, violence, whether directed towards others or oneself, becomes the yardstick for emotions. But when they sow desolation, can we still speak of love ?
