Before getting married my grandmother had lived at 10 Orchard Terrace and had been employed as a machinist in a local shoe factory. Her father Alan Church, was a shepherd, somewhere out Woodford way. There was no radio in in dad's house as they could not afford one. Such things, dad was told, were not for the likes of them.
