Physically Educated

Rook Campbell | Love and Reckoning in Sport

Listen Later

This week on Physically Educated, we’re joined by a dear friend, Rook Campbell (he/him) — scholar and professor, former pro cyclist, and current competitive endurance athlete. Together, we dive deep into our shared love of sport — how it shapes us, grounds us, and how we remain critical of the structures within it.

We explore what becomes possible when we reimagine sport spaces that truly include all athletes. Rook shares about founding Lanemate in 2019, a trans and nonbinary swim clinic created in collaboration with West Hollywood Aquatics. With the motto “Swimming is for all bodies and genders,” Lanemate is rooted in the belief that swimming should be accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or ability — and it returns to WeHo this spring.
