What is it like to lead in a post-Christian culture? Glen Shady shares with us what he is preparing himself for as he looks to move to France and work as a missionary. In addition to getting to hear the behind the scenes experience of Glen as he prepares, we’ll also glean insights on how we can lead better in America and in other places that are quite not as post-Christian as France.
You may not be a missionary. You may not be moving to France. But you can certainly learn a lot from this episode of the Rookie Preacher Podcast.

One of my favorite podcasts is SermonSmith. It’s a podcast dedicated to the craft of sermon preparation. John Chandler is the guy behind that podcast and we had the privilege of discussing with him his ministry context, sermon prep, bivocational ministry, and what he has learned from interviewing 60 or so pastors on sermon preparation. It was the same guy who introduced me to play daisyslots, I really didn’t mind it from the beginning until I slowly enjoy how the casino game works. And it changed my way of life when I won and won and won the jackpot prize!
John mentions some great resources and great conversations he has had. Don’t miss the show notes below.

You want people to take action from your preaching, right? Of course you do. That’s why we do it – so that people will respond to God’s word and God’s grace. It’s amazing how much God can do with a single sermon in someone’s life.
What we’re going to talk about today are some essential principles or ingredients for motivating action from your preaching. We believe these 5 things will put you in a position where you can do as much as you can possibly do in order to set people up for a successful response to God’s word. Obviously God is the one who causes the growth in people’s lives, but we have the responsibility to sow the seed. So why not sow it with some intention?

Is manuscripting your sermon a part of your sermon preparation process? From what we’ve seen, many people are on both sides of that question. Many do and many don’t. We believe that there is a ton of value in writing out your sermon in manuscript form whether you preach from the manuscript or not. In today’s episode, we break down what manuscripting looks like in our sermon preparation process and the benefits of doing so.

Your sermon is meant to be used past Sunday. We call people to action in sermons so don’t we want their action to go past Sunday? Of course we do. What if there were some ways to take your sermon past Sunday and to help your congregation further their walk with God in the process?
This is the topic of conversation for episode 14 of the Rookie Preacher Podcast. If you take hold of these things and put them into practice, you’ll see some great things happen within your church.

Conventional wisdom says that you should concentrate on improving your weaknesses. Well, we’re not so big on conventional wisdom because we say the opposite. Instead of focusing on your weaknesses, you’d be much better suited to cultivate your strengths.
In this episode we go into detail on why improving your weaknesses is almost a waste of time and how to go about cultivating your strengths. Want to see your church make the best impact it can possibly make? You can if you put this into practice.

What if we told you that you should and can preach the Gospel every time no matter the passage? We believe you should and can.
In today’s podcast we break this idea down and show you how to do it with a few examples. This is so important that if we don’t do this, we leave people with simply self-help sermons. And those don’t do any eternal good.

Change in every church is inevitable. How you lead through that change is going to determine whether or not you survive through it. Our churches need us to lead boldly through change.
Innovation is vitally important. We need more entrepreneurial leaders within the church. Our culture is rapidly changing, technology is rapidly changing, and the way we are able to reach people is rapidly changing. We need to always be looking at new angles, new strategies, and determine, by prayer, what to implement.
