Publisher's Summary:
Rose - a precocious young girl in 1930s Wisconsin - runs away from home to avoid going onto high school and what she sees as a certain path to marriage and motherhood. What she seeks is adventure. What she finds is much more.
Rose is thrown into the lives of the varied people and towns of the Mississippi while working on river boats, going to a prep school in St. Louis where she lives with a black family in the Ville, and working in a bordello in New Orleans. (Not as a call girl, of course. She is a Catholic girl from the Midwest after all.) What she doesn't anticipate are the close relationships that develop with many of the women she encounters. She also discovers the harshness of the world far away from the security of home. Ultimately, Rose realizes what is most important in her life: her family and her friends.
Rosebloom takes place at a time in history that buffets Rose between the great depression and the coming wave of World War II. She gets herself into situations through her naivete and also just by chance that test her resolve and teach her not only about herself but about the world of others which she would have never know if she hadn't left her small farm in Southwest Wisconsin.

Great book. Being a student of World War II ...
Great book. Being a student of World War II history, enjoyed this insightful and well researched story of life in the States during this time period. The twists and turns in the book kept your attention and made it hard to put down.
It's a great story of a girl growing up on a farm ...
It's a great story of a girl growing up on a farm in WI and seeing the world from a MISSISSIPPI riverboat she worked on later at 16. I've read 2 more books about Rose and love their connection to my life in WI.
Five Stars
Amazing author!
Really wonderful story teling with historical facts and fiction woven together ...
Really wonderful story teling with historical facts and fiction woven together to make a book I didnât want to put down. I found Christineâs books at a local craft fair and was so excited to find a book vendor in with all the arts and crafts. My only purchase that day was this book, Rosebloom, and I am hooked on her writing. Being from Wisconsin was just the icing on the cake!!! The Prairie du Chien area where the story begins is one of our very favorite areas to visit, not only for itâs natural beauty but also the history of the Mississippi, it just could not get any better for this reader.
Her descriptions and details truly make you feel like youâre there where the story is taking place and I could not wait to get back when I did have to put the book down. I found myself telling the other readers in my family how much I loved this first book and how well it was written to keep me wanting more. Although I read my kindles most of the time, I really want these books in hardcover as they will be books I will treasure and want to have on my many bookshelves. Keep writing Christine as I truly have found another author I will follow and watch for your books in the future.
Great read about life in America
This fascinating journey takes us through 1930's midwestern America, following the story of a young woman who leaves home to find adventure outside of her home town. She encounters racial prejudice among other realities of the world that she previously hadn't been exposed to, but in her own small ways, rights the injustice she finds.
