Rosemary is mostly grown under dryland conditions. When under irrigation, care should be taken not to over irrigate. Irrigation at planting is essential and supplementary irrigation is advised until the plants are well established. Once established with a strong root system, rosemary can produce well if rainfall is above 500mm per year. In wetter areas rosemary will not do as well unless ridged to allow excess water to drain away.
