Main Source both were and still are an artist’s artist. They were also one of the literal firsts to do what they did. Both of those titles are ones that many people claim either for themselves or for others, but it’s rare to stumble across work that actually lives up to the expectations that come along with being a pioneer, or a visionary, or a genius. Albums that good and that influential just don’t happen in any real way all that often. In this case, though, saying any of the above things about Breaking Atoms isn’t an exaggeration and it’s incredible to look back on the impact this album has had on so much of what is now Hip Hop history that has happened since its release. And looking back is exactly what we did on this episode. You may not have heard of Main Source, and you may not have ever listened to Breaking Atoms, but either way you are in for a special experience this month that only comes around every so often for anyone who loves music. The chance to hold a piece of literal music history in your hands and explore the lives of the people who made it. We only touch on all of those points, but we do enough to give you a starting point for the journey this record will take you on this month. We help get you ready for one of the most underappreciated albums in the last 25 years before it shows up at your door.
