I created this episode after going on a week-long road trip for a class I am in at the University of New Mexico, Route 66 The Mother Road. I discussed what souveniers mean, and how they are ingrained in humanity. I interviewed two of my classmates, Sarah Fryberger, Victoria Trujillo, along with the course instructors Jason Moore and Troy Lovata. The other sources I cite throughout include: Susan Stewart's On Longing, Indigenous studies scholar talks cultural appropriation, stereotyping, ‘Souvenirs: What and Why We Buy’ by Hugh Wilkins, What Role Do Souvenirs Play in Cultural Appropriation?, ‘Tourists’ Souvenir Purchase Behavior and Retailers’ Awareness of Tourists’ Purchase Behavior in the Southwest’ by Kristen K. Swanson Patricia E. Horridge, and ‘Marx's Concept of Fetishism’ by Haskell Lewin and Jacob Morris.
