"1 In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a certain man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elim'elech and the name of his wife Na'omi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chil'ion; they were Eph'rathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went into the country of Moab and remained there." [Ruth 1:1-2 RSV]

NEWS FLASH - Royal Heartbreak!

Following the news of the famine in the land, Elimelech and his immediate family leave Bethlehem to self-isolate in Moab.

In the Book of Ruth, we are introduced to a family of royal pedigree.  Elimelech, his wife Naomi and their two sons were of royal pedigree.  Elimelech was destined for the throne.   Elimelech had the potential to become king.  He made a serious error in judgment when he left his people behind and relocated to Moab with his immediate family.

These days of the COVID-19 pandemic are a type of famine in our land.  The way we respond to the pandemic can either make us or break us.
