RSN's Sporting Women - Diane Bloom - Adventurethon Participant

Listen Later

I had been a swimming teacher after high school and needed to get back into squad training with the Brunswick Belugas as one of the Lorne Adventure events hit home that I cannot pull off a 2km swim in the ocean per year without training like I did in my 20's. The swimming complimented with my paddle training for the past 10 years was a good combination for Adventure events. I came that after Carter and I married in 2007 we could combine our sports as his Canadian back ground didn't afford him the water lifestyle that we enjoy in Australia. Fortunately he had a number of years of running and xc mountain biking so it was a perfect marriage of me in the water and him on dry land when eventing together.
The whole commitment of Adventure Racing really grew with being involved with Peak Adventure and what Jarad and Emma Kohlar are able to offer and support everybody with differing levels of skill. It is a great family and friends feel to training while improving with skill and fitness.
Adventure racing is for all levels and we are a far cry from being in the top ten but love the atmosphere and the people it attracts. We have recruited a new friend to the run leg this year in our team, too many holidays have left no time for Carter to do running training.
Carter has just taken up Stand Up Paddle boarding so that leaves me without a support car, guess we'll have to organise another way to get the car to the end of paddle races from now on.
