Sir John Key was Prime Minister of New Zealand from 2008 to 2016, having commenced his political career in 2002. Sir John had a long career in international finance, primarily for Bankers Trust in New Zealand and Merrill Lynch in Singapore, London and Sydney. He was previously a member of the Foreign Exchange Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (from 1999-2001).
Sir John was made a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours. In 2017 Sir John became a Companion of the Order of Australia for advancing the Australia-New Zealand bilateral relationship.
