RTWN012: How to Listen, Hear & Understand with Rosemary McKenzie-Ferguson

Listen Later

Rosemary McKenzie-Ferguson is an injured worker and an advocate for people who have been injured at work. Today she is back for the second half of our conversation. In RTW Nation Episode 11 Rosemary described the amazing community work she is leading. Today we extend our conversation to discuss the experiences of injured workers and some ideas for better ways of doing things. In today's episode we discuss:
  • The impact an injury has on routines
  • The workplace family
  • The importance of real communication
  • The system need not be as complex as it is
  • I ask Rosemary what advice she would give to:
    • someone who was injured at work today
    • a Case Manager at a WorkCover insurer
    • the supervisor of a recently injured worker
  • I ask Rosemary my "magic wand" question - what is one thing she would change about the system?
I give you my three key take-aways:
  1. The workplace family
  2. Listen to hear what's not being said
  3. Be there for your injured employees
Also discussed in this episode is the new WorkSafe agent panel in Victoria Australia and International Day of Mourning on 28 April 2016 where Rosemary will unveil the Deceased Workers' Memorial Wall at the Deceased Workers' Memorial Forest. Read more details in this post by Rosemary. Rosemary is available to speak at conferences and events. She also offers training to workcover claims agents.
