Compelling narrative

Ruby's Passing

Steven Long has given us a gripping tale based on an actual gruesome crime that happened on the Texas Gulf coast in 1955. He has seamlessly fictionalized the story, adding a supernatural element that helps explore the warped mind of an obsessed sociopath. The whole of the narrative is wonderfully driven by the description of an openly corrupt Galveston County, and especially by the painting of the harsh beauties and realities of the Big Bend wilderness and the unique folks that inhabit it. A ripping yarn.

Good enough to finish

I was enjoying this story more before the killer's demon seemed to become something other than his insanity.

My Kindle version had more technical editing errors than I'm used to, more frequent toward the end -- not serious, just annoying when I have to re-read a sentence to make sense of it.

A spellbinding thriller

WOW!

I stayed-up until 3AM last week to finish the last 100 pages

Fabulous book!

It is every bit as good, and as the hair-raising, as Larry McMurtry's Comanche Moon, (who has always been my favorite author, along with Joseph Wambaugh.)

The 1950-era characters and far SW Texas location descriptions are wonderful.

Just finished reading Ruby's Passing, by Steven Long.....He does a great job of combining Texas History, Mistery, and Horror into this book.
