There is something about rules that most of us instinctively resist. From when we are young, being told what to do can feel like being put into a box. Even when the instruction makes sense, there is still that part of us that wants to push back, to do things our own way, to question why we have to follow it at all.
And that feeling does not really go away.
In today’s episode of The Zoe Life Podcast, Rules, Liberty I: the Fundamentals of Expression, we explore that tension between rules and freedom. Why is it that we often focus more on what a rule restricts rather than what it is trying to protect or build? Why does guidance sometimes feel like limitation, even when it is meant for our good?
Through everyday experiences, from childhood defiance to moments in adult life where being told what to do feels frustrating, this episode begins to unpack where that instinct comes from and what it reveals about us. Especially as believers, it invites us to rethink what rules actually represent in the context of growth, expression, and purpose.
Because maybe the real issue is not the presence of rules.
But how we understand the freedom we think they take away.
Enjoy 🤍
