The Rules Nobody likes rules. We rebel at the thought of someone limiting our freedom. We react at anyone’s attempt to control our behavior. Often times, we respond to God and his rules the same way. We see the Ten Commandments as a list of dos and don’ts. We sometimes see God as the Ultimate Rule Giver, and we miss the true purpose of his commands — to bring us joy! As the Psalmist declares, “The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes (Psalm 19:8).
