Run for your life

Run an Ultra Marathon Without a Stomach

Listen Later

Ahilan Ponnusamy never ran a step. The only exercise he ever did was an occasional cricket game. After being diagnosed with a severe and rare cancer he had to have his stomach removed. Ahilan felt like he needed a way to get rid of the toxins from all the medication he was taking during his recovery. He started on a mission to complete his first half marathon. He found out someone with the same condition had run a marathon, so that be came his next goal. Then a 50k. Then a 50 miler just this last year. Now he is chasing his first 100k and beyond to raise money and awareness for this type of cancer. What is just as inspiring as his journey is his mental outlook. He is very humble and grateful for the opportunities given to him, and you can hear this and how he made it through each of these race challenges in this episode.
