We all learned the fable of the tortoise and the hare as children with the moral of the story being slow and steady wins the race. Of course, in practice, it's a bit harder to remember. I recently participated in the Hood to Coast relay up in Oregon. Almost immediately into my second leg (which began at 2:00 AM), a fellow racer passed me.
