Water shortages, hard labour and tough conditions have always made life in the outback a struggle for thousands of rural Australians. Some data, according to the ABC’s “fact check” page, suggests that the risk of suicide is on average twice as high for farmers.

Daniel Nour speaks to Bishop Columba Macbeth-Green, of the rural diocese of Wilcania-Forbes, which stretches across western New South Wales, about life in the outback, and his work with farming communities in rural Australia.
