Why Testing Weapons in Space is a Bad Idea. The host for this show is Tim Apicella. The guests are Jay Fidell and Winston Welch.
If you saw the sci-fi movie Gravity a few years ago, it was about astronauts working on repairs on a space station when the unthinkable occurred: Russia destroyed a satellite within the same orbit of the space station. The thousands of pieces of space debris became a life threat to those living in the station. Sometimes life imitates art because essentially that's close to what occurred when Russia conducted a missile strike in space. Currently, NASA tracks thousands of pieces of space junk that travel at great speeds in Earth's orbit. Russia and China just added to the list of debris that can potentially damage satellites or worse the International Space Station, and jeopardize the lives of astronauts. This hazard is well understood by Russia. They didn't care and ignored an informal agreement to keep space free of weapons, and equally important, not test weapons which create new debris fields. The Biden Admin. loudly protested. As usual, Russia could care less. What should US do now?
