привет, добро пожаловать в подкаст «Мой друг из»
Russia is big.
In our final episode of the season, My Friend From Russia, Yulia, talks about growing up in Ulan-Ude and it´s fascinating culture. She teaches us about dachas, drools over Russian soup, makes fun of me and kindly ignores my terrible attempts at the Russian language. СПАСИБО
Show notes:
Ulan-Ude the capital of Buryatia Republic.
The Buryats (formely known as Buryat Mongols) are a Mongol ethnic group native to southeastern Siberia who speak the Buryat language. The Buryats make up one of two of the largest indigenous groups in Siberia, the other being the Yakuts. Personally, I think Buryat script is beautiful and you should check it out online. It´s written vertically (downwards) and looks like this ᠪᠣᠷᠢᠶᠠᠳ
Buryat tribe mentioned - Songol
The White Month holiday or festival, emerged from nomadic culture in Mongolia. Originally it was celebrated in autumn, when the production of so many milk-based foods which saw the nomads through the rigors of winter, came to an end. White Month therefore features “White foods”, which are of course milk based. These foods include: Airag – fermented mares milk (I wasn´t a fan! ) Sour cream, cottage cheese, cheese and “milk vodka” (I was a fan!) all fall into the white food group.
A dacha can be described as a second home or holiday cottage used through out Russia and parts of the former Soviet Union. About 30% of Russian families living in large cities own a dacha.
Music:
Darbu - Sapajou (PDM)
It´s Such A Pity/What A Shame (Как Жаль) - Bravo (Браво)
