On November 21, 2024, Russian forces launched a newly developed intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), identified as the 'Oreshnik,' targeting the Pivdenmash (Yuzhmash) aerospace plant in Dnipro, Ukraine. The strike marked the first combat use of this weapon system, which carried multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs) equipped with inert or kinetic warheads rather than high explosives or nuclear payloads. Both the Kremlin and Ukrainian officials confirmed the deployment of the missile, which reached hypersonic speeds and was not intercepted by air defense systems.
