Almost 200,000 people were under evacuation orders in northern California after a threat of catastrophic failure at the tallest dam in the United States that could have been fixed over a decade ago but government officials chose to ignore. A co-founder of Black Lives Matter Toronto argued that white people are “recessive genetic defects”. National security adviser Michael Flynn resigns over Russia controversy. The U.S. Treasury hauled in a record of approximately $1,084,840,000,000 in tax revenues in the first four months of fiscal 2017. Trump has signed 12 executive orders so far… Obama issued 19 executive orders in this first 100 days of his presidency and Bush signed 11 executive orders in his first 100 days in office.

▶ Economics: Yellen signaled that the next rate hike could come as early as March. U.S. wholesale prices jumped in January by the most since September 2012, led by higher costs of gasoline and indicating inflation is beginning to stir. A correction that most analysts say is overdue and imminent might be closer than you think. Is Bitcoin trying to tell us something?

▶ Global Issues: The new type of intermediate-range ballistic missile launched by North Korea on Sunday is a “game changer”. Russia has secretly deployed a new cruise missile. A Russian spy ship was spotted patrolling off the East Coast. Russia is using the Syrian civil war as a live-fire boot camp to train Iranian forces as the region’s dominant military force. Russia’s upcoming joint military drill with neighboring Belarus has been described as a “demonstrative preparation for war with the West”
