Think about a fountain made of tiered stone basins. The water pumps up from the deep ground and pours directly into the top basin first. But that top basin isn't designed to hold all the water. The moment it gets full, the water naturally cracks the rim, overflows, and floods the second basin, then the third, until the entire courtyard is refreshed by the stream.
Our relationship with God is the top basin. We take in His love, His peace, and His wisdom until our inner reserves are completely full. But a truly filled life cannot contain itself. Loving God is never complete until we let that love overflow into the lives of our neighbors. When we share our strength—whether by offering a helping hand to a struggling colleague, showing grace in a tough negotiation, or simply looking out for a neighbor in need—we are letting the fountain do its work. Let’s stop trying to contain the blessing today. Let’s live in the overflow and watch how our vertical faith completely transforms our horizontal world.
