Ryan's Diary - An Aussie goes Barmy (Volume 1)

Listen Later

This week we have Volume 1 of Ryan's Travel Diary - an Aussie goes Barmy.
Australia Day spent in London watching the soccer with no sun or BBQ was a bit of a shock.
Otherwise Week 1 has been filled with finding our feet, boring life things like setting up bank accounts, buying a big warm coat and getting ready for work. It's yet to hit double digits weather-wise here and the sun is certainly gone by 5pm, but the city has a feel to it and buzz that means things are always happening so beyond being a bit cold it's been great to explore it.
After a couple of days settling in, it was off to work on Wednesday and it's been good getting stuck into that, working near Kings Cross is a great location and there is a cafe nearby with Australian style coffee so that's a relief!
A big surprise so far has been how kind and friendly the English are here to us, we're in a very English flat in Islington (just North of London) short term, split level with a lovely French couple on the bottom level and really like this area so will find somewhere longer term to stay, it's got great restaurants, pubs and plenty of activity.

Gender roles are changing and blending together and the stay-at-home dad or part time dad population is growing.
More fathers than ever are participating in their children's nurturing and upbringing.
The thing is that fathers and mothers come into the parenting process differently though. For the mother, the connection is biological. It's a part of her.
Fathering, on the other hand, is less so. Therefore, it's important for men to learn the skills they need to be a good dad. For some guys it's more intuitive, like kicking a football, but most guys need a coach or some direction.
DADDY EATS LAST discusses what it means to be a man and a father in modern society and all the issues that comes with both.
