Today we are excited to introduce our first guest on the show, Ian Jolin-Rasmussen, better known as Jolin Ras. A sound designer, composer, and DJ, Ian gives us a breakdown of how important sound design is when producing video content. He’s also a husband and a father and therefore knows all about the challenges of balancing your personal and professional life. Starting each morning with a 4:30 a.m. workout, Ian is fiercely disciplined and makes the most of those hours while everyone else is still sleeping. What emerges from our conversation is the importance of sound design and original music when it comes to marketing content, and Ian discusses the integrated yet distinct roles of a composer, sound designer, and producer. We also chat about how he cold-called, and used online forums (pre-social media!) to connect with the likes of Madbury Club and Vayner Media. Ian breaks down some of the amazing brands he’s worked with including Nike, Reigning Champ, Ciroc, and Asics. Traditionally a lot of marketing focus is placed on the visual components of campaigns, and you often don’t really notice the audio until it’s done poorly. But listening to what Ian has to say, you will learn why you need to be paying close attention to every layer of creative. For all the marketers who are involved in the production of engaging social media content or campaigns, this episode will give you some food for thought.
