Unlike what Adam believes, the MacGuffin is not on the breakfast menu of a fast food restaurant. Nor is it a hastily made contraption made from rubber bands and chewing gum wrappers to get the hero out of sticky situation. The MacGuffin is that thing that provides the characters with the motivation needed to move the plot forward.
