To boldly tell someone the truth can have unpredictable consequences. The best we can do is speak up for what is right with grace, truth, and love—and let God do the rest. On this episode of Godly Goosebumps, Pastor Dudley Rutherford shares about the time he met Dave Hopla, who is arguably the greatest basketball shooting instructor on the planet. Hopla has coached countless high school, university, and NBA players.

One day, Dudley attended a shooting clinic with his young son at California State University Northridge where Hopla was teaching. As he shot the ball, Hopla explained his mechanics and his form. He would step farther and farther away from the hoop, talking the whole time and not missing a single shot. Even from half-court, he couldn’t miss. The coaches and players in attendance were captivated. Everyone was silent as they listened intently to every word Hopla said. Unfortunately, many of the words he chose to use were curse words. The foul language got so bad that Dudley left and took his son with him. Dudley went home and wrote a bold letter to Dave Hopla, and you won’t believe what happened next!
