Traditional and cultural ceremonies in the Pacific would not be complete with a feast, which almost always includes pork and pork products. It is difficult to imagine a regional function without it. But a rise in swine flu is now putting the Pacific pork industry under threat, with potentially catastrophic impact not only cultural traditions, but also economies and livelihoods. An all out effort is underway to ‘Save our bacon’.
