There are only a few differences between being a great keynote speaker and a great emcee. A keynote delivers and leaves and an emcee supports and shines. Both can use the same skills but it doesn’t mean that everyone can do both.
For me, I do both whenever possible to guarantee the audience is primed and ready for my keynote and because I usually get bored waiting around for my turn to speak. The BIG plus side? When you can do both, you can usually charge more because you are giving them two roles for the price of 1.5. If not, you get extra kudos, a better event and make yourself invaluable for future events.
