Marathon vs festival: which Brazilian Zouk event actually fits you right now? Gui went to his first full marathon and danced ten hours, and he was less tired than after a normal event day. When I heard that, it matched something I'd felt for years but never said out loud.
So Gui, Adayl Iost and I finish our event map, educational events, holiday events, and dance marathons, so you can pick what fits where you are.
Why a marathon leaves you less tired than a weekend:
→ It's not the hours, it's the gear-switching. At a festival I'm a teacher, then a competitor, then hanging out, then social dancing. Every switch costs energy. Four hours of admin plus three hours of classes tires me more than ten hours of classes straight.
→ The marathon strips that away. No class anxiety, no early mornings, no being everywhere. One mode, all day.
→ Adayl calls it "truly social dance": nobody is drilling the workshop move they just learned, so the floor goes back to being a floor.
So before you book the next festival, ask what you need. To recharge? A marathon. To learn? An educational event or a weekender. To get away? A holiday event in Croatia or Mexico, where the destination is half the point.
The big takeaway: you're responsible for your own experience. Other people's reviews tell you more about them than about the event. So go, and feel it for yourself. That's the whole skill.
