This episode of the Deep Dive takes a look at the contesting by Dr. Vadim Lerman of the New York State Worker's Compensation Board's denial of his authorization to treat injured workers in the State of New York.  This denial stems from the WCB's determination of deviations from Medical Treatment Guidelines (MTGs), including performing unapproved surgeries and insufficient documentation to support medical necessity. Dr. Lerman contests this decision, with unfounded claims of his own, asserting that the WCB was unduly influenced by self-interested insurance companies, specifically citing pending federal civil litigation involving what he calls "shadow insurance" operators like Roosevelt Road Re, Ltd. and Ionian Re, LLC.  The WCB's official explanation details numerous instances of Dr. Lerman's purported non-compliance.  We chime in on this one,  in defense of the WCB's authority, duty, independence, and to highlights the importance of thorough and compliant medical documentation in all cases.
