On Episode 6, we’re joined by 20-year NBA veteran Phil Weber. Arguably the NBA’s first player development coach, Phil spent 9 seasons on the sidelines with the Phoenix Suns under Mike D’Antoni. He was an integral part of the Suns’ back-to-back trips to the Western Conference Finals in ‘05 and ‘06, as well as, an offensive guru whose early adoption of analytics led to the Suns’ iconic small ball, run-and-gun style of play that jump started the modern NBA.
In the 1st episode of this two-part series, we dive into Phil’s national championship playing days under Jimmy V, his rise through the college coaching ranks from Florida to Hawai’i and everywhere in between, and, of course, his eventual ascent to the NBA under then-HC Danny Ainge. He even shares some personal stories about the legendary Kobe Bryant and his unique friendship with the Wizard of Westwood, John Wooden.
All this and much, much more on Episode 6!
