Jay Shifman is an open book. A vulnerable storyteller and stigma-destroying speaker, podcaster, and event host, Jay’s story of struggle is familiar to the millions of people the world over who also struggle with issues of mental health, substance misuse, and addiction. Now in long-term recovery, it is Jay’s mission to encourage difficult conversations and honest education concerning these and similar struggles.

In this episode Jay shares the importance of storytelling and sharing our stories with one another as learning tools. He tells a funny story about being bit by a brown recluse spider while trying to see one of favorite bands. The interesting thing is the band has a song about being bitten by a spider! After this incident, he befriends the band and they end up giving him the nickname Spider Jay.
