When Mimi was a young girl, a set of circumstances lead her and her mother to the seedy and dangerous housing projects of ‘Regent Park’, Toronto, where death, drugs, guns and gangs were a way of life.

Deciding it was a matter of life and death for Mimi to escape, her mother booked her a one-way ticket to Australia, where she’d finish high school in a more stable, and much safer environment.
