The series launches with a chat between partner Ian Fitch and Paul Day, Managing Director of Turners (Soham) a hugely successful logistics and haulage company. They discuss how fairness has stood Paul well throughout his career, the importance of knowing the numbers, and how initial worries over COVID-19 soon turned into a new opportunity.
After reading maths at Cambridge, Paul joined the family haulage business, Turners in 1984, and eight years later, took over from his grandfather, Wal Turner, as managing director. Turners now has a £470M turnover, 2,300 trucks and 4,000 employees, and Paul has a Rich List estimated wealth at £350M. As well as his love of business, Paul takes a great interest in sport. He has represented England in table tennis and went on to become English Champion. Later he coached both the England junior and women’s table tennis teams, and after also taking up croquet, went on to represent Great Britain!
